Microsoft is developing an Ethereum wallet for its Edge browser Cryptocurrencies and Web3 projects are increasingly being integrated into mainstream software products.

According to research from software investigator Albacore, Microsoft is currently developing a built-in wallet that will be part of its proprietary web browser, Edge.

The new feature, called "crypto-wallet," will allow users to perform transactions and store Ethereum and Ethereum-based tokens without intermediaries. In available screenshots, Microsoft confirms the project's status and warns testers about the risk of using their own funds in this wallet.

The message states: "As a tester, you will be using your own funds. In case of loss of funds, Microsoft will not compensate for any losses. This is a confidential project, and no details should be disclosed to external parties."

This confirms that the wallet is still in the early stages of testing and not yet ready for public use. Additional information If the built-in crypto-wallet is eventually released, it will become a competitor to Metamask - the most popular Web3 wallet, with the special condition that it will be built into Edge initially. Bleeping Computer, a portal that had the opportunity to test the wallet, reported that it can confirm the wallet's support for various Ethereum accounts, and users can switch between them at will.

Moreover, the wallet can be used with existing Web3 applications. There is also a built-in Ethereum exchange in the wallet, supporting ETH, DAI, UNI, USDC, and USDT. Strings present in the software suggest adding a Bitcoin wallet in the future, but this feature is not yet available.

Microsoft has not confirmed the existence of a crypto-wallet. A company representative stated: "At Microsoft, we regularly test new features to explore new possibilities for our customers. We eagerly await feedback from customers but cannot share any more information at this time."

Microsoft actively supports Web3-related projects by participating in the development of standards for the metaverse and implementing metaverse features in its Teams application, although recent staff reductions have affected some of these projects.
